We are a family team of three – me, Maggie my wife, and her brother Phil in the UK. Since 2001 we have been running Mother’s Garden from our farm in the Priorat mountains of Catalonia, and have now won multiple UK awards for our fresh arbequina olive oil. Very simply, the personal contact, the trust and the transparency of our little business – people can also come and stay on the farm and join in harvests – offers the provenance and story that people appreciate. I have written two books about this life too.
Why We’re Supporting #MicroBizMattersDay
Micro businesses are fundamental to the well-being of any nation, acorns of innovation, the standard bearers of quality and service, and if they thrive the communities and the country thrive.
We are committed Europeans. Not necessarily a popular point of view in these worrying times. We depend on an open Europe to survive and thrive, and deeply appreciate the social and business support for small businesses here in Catalonia. We are deeply worried about the uncertainty facing the British economy and small businesses there as the profound consequences of Brexit unravel. We do not want to, but we will find other markets if necessary if trading into Britain becomes untenable.
