WHY US?

Driven by a passion for self employed people and micro business that stems back decades,Tina Boden and Tony Robinson OBE set out on a mission in 2011 to make life in micro (0-9 employees) business better. On 9th January 2012, we launched Enterprise Rockers CIC. With an ongoing belief that there needs to be greater recognition for the benefits that the smallest businesses in the world bring, Tina and Tony have invested time and money they earn from running their own micro businesses to drive this independent community interest company forward.

WHAT WE DO?

We are best known for our annual #MicroBizMattersDay which takes place on the second Friday of the New Year. Millions of micro business owners in the UK and overseas are encouraged online to give a small amount of time to help another existing or prospective business owners e.g. #IGave13minutes (January 13 2017).

Although primarily an online promotion where micro business owners choose many creative ways online and at get togethers to help each other, (#MicroBizMattersDay 2016 trended on twitter for 5 hours) there are 8 broadcast learning hours with celebrity guests organised by Tina and Tony and their mini army of Head Roadies. There is usually a formal event in London and an increasing number of City Parties to support.

Like Tina and Tony’s inspiration, Kanya King MBE and the MOBO Awards, although this is an annual event it is promoted daily and the ‘own business’ learning resources from the big days are curated and made available free of charge to everyone, everywhere – throughout the year.

Although Head Roadies (all micro business owners) give up their time for free on #MicroBizMattersDay in the UK and overseas, Tina and Tony insist on paying their travel and accommodation expenses. Throughout the year VAs, designers, printers, web masters, press agencies, communications, travel and accommodation providers have to be paid.

FOUR CAMPAIGNS

Throughout the year we campaign by petitions, contributing to consultations and research and active blogging, skyping and speaking about the following 4 campaigns; #Indie25ER, #PayIn30Days, #NotAnSME and #MicroBizMattersDay.  A short video explaining these is above.

HIT THE ROCKS FUND

Hit the Rocks

There are 5.4 million people in the UK running micro businesses, those that employ between 0 & 9 people. Unfortunately however, when the going gets tough, you often have no one to turn to if you are self-employed especially if you are one of the vast majority who are sole traders. It is at times of crisis that even the smallest amount of money can make a big difference to improve the situation you find yourself in whether through ill health or natural disaster you can feel at rock bottom.

Through our Enterprise Rockers CIC Hit the Rocks Fund – micro business owners are able to apply for for a crisis grant of £200 to a maximum of £500.00 to help them through the difficult time they find themselves in. Natural disasters (In 2016 we helped micro businesses affected by flooding) and serious ill health are the two main reasons we would give the small amount as a ‘no strings attached’ grant. Enterprise Rockers Head Roadies help Tina and Tony make the decision.

HOW IS YOUR DONATION SPENT?

Enterprise Rockers CIC and #MicroBizMattersDay have positively touched the lives of millions of micro business owners because they are no competitive threat to large corporations and business membership organisations. As we have no members, hold no database of contact details and don’t sell anything to micro business owners large organisations with micro business owner customers or members can promote what we do directly to their customers or members. This means we rely entirely on donations.

Of every £1 received 50p will go towards covering expenses associated with #MicroBizMattersDay AND our 4 all year round Campaigns and 50p goes into the ‘Hit the Rocks Fund’ to provide small grants to tide the business owner over in a time of crisis.
